2007 March 21 - Rebar Detection and Ground Penetrating Radar
This was prompted by customer telephone call who was referred to us by Dan Solis at The CAT Rental Store - Calgary.
The customer was looking to locate pipes, rebar and tensioning cables embedded within a concrete slab.
As we get a few telephone calls per year for this type of application, a little more research is in order.
The two common techniques for locating embedded items in a slab are Rebar Locators (for ferrous objects)
and Ground Penetrating Radar (for anything - ferrous or otherwise).
After the research the customer was actually looking for a rebar locator, but he was asking for a specific unit
the "profometer" (see the link below). He also asked Dan about locating fiber-optic cable in the slab as well which the
"profometer" will NOT detect (essentially it is a metal detector).
